Edwards Accountants Welcomes 10 New Starters in 2021

19th October 2021

Due to our expansion in services, we’ve been able to grow our team, investing in new, local talent.

Despite the impact of the pandemic, our place in the market has grown, as we help to lessen client tax burdens while fulfilling legal obligations. We have seen particularly rapid growth in our Research & Development, Auditing, and Tax Advisory departments.

With the growth of our business, we are delighted to be able to offer young and local people the chance to develop qualifications in a personable and friendly environment. At Edwards Accountants, we collaborate and work together to provide the best service for our clients, as well as our team.

We’re pleased to announce that throughout 2021, we’ve hired 10 new members of staff. Our new starters span across a range of different areas of the business, including R&D, Tax and Accountancy. Below is a yearly breakdown of our 2021 recruits.

January:

Our first new starters joined back in January, when we were still in lockdown. Anne Ward joined as an Audit Manager and Sharon Gill joined as an Accounts Senior.

Joining our team during lockdown meant that both Anne and Sharon spent their first few months working remotely, accessing various online systems. However, upon returning to the office earlier this summer, they have been given full in-person training.

“I joined Edwards as a Chartered Accountant looking for further progression. After working in industry for five years I was looking for a chance to practice and more exposure to accounts. After completing my ACCA, I was looking for a position that would allow me to put my knowledge into practice.” – Sharon Gill

March – July:

Between March and July, our Research and Development department saw plenty of new additions, including Lewis Thompson, Leyton Hines, Laura MacDonald, Minhaal Abdulhussein and Luke Hastings. They’ve loved the cooperative working environment and the ability to get involved with client accounts from the very beginning. At Edwards Accountants, we also invest time into our team, cultivating a great workplace culture.

Here’s what some of our new R&D recruits have to say:

“After completing the AAT qualification at my previous firm, I decided that I wanted to develop my knowledge and experience on Corporation Tax, R&D tax credits and the overall process of preparing Statutory Accounts and I felt that Edwards was the perfect place for me to develop this experience. Edwards have also offered me the opportunity to continue my studies and since joining, I have started studying the ACCA qualification.” – Leyton Hines.

“I joined Edwards as I was looking for a new challenge and a chance to broaden my accounting knowledge. After working at a different accountancy practice where my role was to complete year end accounts and audit work, I was looking for increased exposure to management accounting.” – Laura Macdonald.

“I joined Edwards for quite a few reasons: the first because, from first impression, my interviewers came across as really invested in their employees’ progression and wellbeing, and the second because I was really intrigued by their client base being in the science and technology sector, due to the nature of Edwards offering R&D services.” – Minhaal Abdulhussein.

September:

While Spring and Summer saw plenty of growth at Edwards, Autumn has been no less busy! Our most recent hires include Neel Godhania in our Audit & Accountancy department, Akhil Nair in Tax and Jake Bishop as an Audit Junior.

We take employee wellbeing seriously here at Edwards, and we do all that we can to ensure our employees are motivated and supported. It’s great to see that our commitment to employee wellbeing is considered when people join our team, with Akhil Nair saying:

“I joined Edwards Accountants because of their great reputation as an employer. They’re a large independent firm with great opportunities to work with a Tax Director. There are lots of great learning opportunities, as well as good career progression.”
